At last i've got a leg to stand on !

Searched a local wood late this afternoon, got to be honest I don't really like searching woods. But with nearly all of the fields in crop beggars can't be choosers. First find laying on the top was a button, hand made and looks very old with a lion on it. The button is very large and in perfect condition, it shows traces of gold gilding. Got a feeling this is a nice find historically. Next find of note after a constant stream of shot gun butts was a hollow bronze alloy leg. When you find bronze limbs in England you think Roman statuet, but I don't think it is, the figure when complete though would have been fairly large. I searched this wood which is not an ancient wood, because the fields that surround it have given me loads of goods finds over the years.

Very nice button, I would be very pleased with that one. Never seen this type but it must be at least 17th century, wouldn't you think?

I'm probably wrong, but I think it "may" be older than 17th Century. The lion looks a bit Tudor in style.

Cheers shaun, it would have looked stunning new, a silver lion on a gold background. It was literally on the top in an area where pebbles were breaking through the sandy soil in a clearing.

it amazes me how anything can be found in woods with hundreds of years worth of leaves on top but i've found old pennies and stuff just under the surface
in woods!

Well there is an hole in the foot (maybe a casting hole though). If it is it could have been broken during the reformation, all symbolism was removed from churches at that time.
