Variety update!!!!! AT PRO finds 2 Large Cents, And flat buttons!!!!!!!!!!

Last friday my cousin and I went out to the Boyce property again and i found two flat buttons and a three ringer. The one flat button has a crown on it and says "Double Gilt". Then yesterday i went to the property where i deer hunt and there is an old house that sits on it. Ive been around it a few times with the Ace 250 and found two wheaties, so with the AT PRO i wanted to give it another shot, and i found a WW1 or WW2 Eagle badge? (help on a proper ID). I received the latest Lost Treasure magazine and there was an article in it on how to find treasures in hunted out spots. So i read the article and tried out a few of the tips and i think they are paying off big time because today my cousin and i went back out to the Boyce property and i worked in an opposite direction than i normally do with the AT PRO on (Pro Zero, Iron Zero) and right off the bat i dug a nice flat button the says "Independence and Commerce". Then 3 feet away and 1818 holed large cent 7" down. This is my first 1800's coin with the AT PRO. Then less then 5 minutes go by and another 5 feet away from the last large cent i getting a nice 89-91 signal. Wow "maybe another one" i yelled across the field to my cousin, i dug it and it was in the plug, only 3" down a beautiful 1817 Large Cent!!!!! I also dug a brass thing that im not sure what it is, any help there would be great. Thanks for looking and HH!!!

Variety update!!!

I think the 1817 is a very scarce variety, being a Newcomb 1 or 2!!!

Newcomb 2 reverse

I'm leaning more towards the newcomb 2 variety. the "UN" in United is a little bit higher up then the "ITED". The same as in my coin. Any opinions?

Looking at the examples you provided along side your find...I would agree with you on the 2 variety. Banner anyone?

They had 16 different varieties of the 1817 with 13 stars and the 1 with 15 stars. I didn't see much difference in them at first then started comparing the dates, and saw there was differences in the way they were positioned or the size of certain numbers comparing to the others.

super finds. I sure would like to dig some large cents

An extraordinary hunt F2!!! The LCs are in really good shape. Gold may be next for you in the sweet area where you hunt. Those Great Seal buttons can give a person a cardiac event in a CW site-LOL. WTG, Quindy.

That makes it much more better! I looked at my 1817 as well, mine also has the 8 and 7 above the 1. Mine is much more worn than yours though. Yours is a beauty for sure. Little jealous over here!

Thanks. I was studying the varieties for an hour trying to find little differences to find a match. But i was able to find a match for all three of my LC's. The other two are a common variety, i was pretty pumped when the nice 1817 was a very scarce one!

I have an ID for you on the brass piece. It's half of a piece of early 1800s/late 1700s horse tack from a saddle or similar. There is a long thread I posted if you have an afternoon free to read all 130+ replies, but the ID is in there. The piece you found went over top of the two-hole decorative pieces in the original post, and fastened with an iron attachment. Presumably, this was to thread reins or some piece of leather through to act as a tie-down. Nobody was ever able to come up with a period saddle with these exact items on it, but sooner or later I'm confident I'll see one. You've probably dug the other part before, and didn't know what it went to. Seems like most diggers who've been at this hobby long enough, and hunted the Federal or Georgian era stuff have a couple in their collection.
