I had a great opportunity to put the new Gpx5000 to a test this last week. I was stunned! This machine is simply the best relic machine hands down money can buy. GPX Series metal detectors are not only highly capable of detecting gold at great depths, they are also excellent for finding US Civil War relics deeper than any other metal detector. This is especially true in mineralised ground. In this video learn how to set up a GPX Series metal detector for hunting US Civil War relics.

But how accurate is the disc. good for? Does everything beyond 6" sound the same? If so, that can be pretty discouraging to be going 1 ft. deep for nails. A very quick way to get kicked out of turfed parks, etc... :-\

I was hunting with Mike at the last DIV in Virginia and I can tell you he was digging deeper than anyone who did not have the GPX. We hunted a hill that was pounded to death with every machine. I was using the MXT PRO and could not get a signal anywhere and he was digging targets everywhere. Of course they were 12 to 16 inches deep and I could not touch them in that soil. Yes these machines are expensive and they were originally designed for finding gold but the becoming very popular in the relic world. This machine would be great to go back to those hunted out sites and get those very deep finds. I saw him dig a button two feet deep as well as several others saw him digging these deep targets. If I could afford this machine I would jump all over it.

(Not a Relic hunter but) When the hunting gets very competitive this would be the machine to have, best hunting would be grid the area with a discriminating detector firsts (marking iron) then same area with the GPX n dig all........ was at one time thinking a 4500 for the winter Beach's..but now they come out with something new.........Is the coil 100% waterproof on the new 5500n5000? thanks..obn

Question on the GPX..Nails double beep..seeing both ends of the nail, detecting by shape, size, length of signal?

Sierra Madre..a deep hitting vlf, better on larger targets?

No, unfortunately the stock 11' Mono and DD coils are not 100 percent waterproof. They were designed for the the Gold fields in the west and Australia. Until recently, the machines have been proven they are the BEST relic machines around. However, I offer a free Coiltek Platypus submergable DD coil with every purchase, so no problems with submergeable detecting. If you are a serious Revolutionary, Colonial or Civil War relic hunter.....Give me a shout. I will set you up .
