So picture this. A crisp October Saturday morning in a small southern New England town. The start of the annual pumpkin festival on Main Street and the local church holding a white elephant sale first thing in the morning. The large wooden main entrance swings open and a giant ominous presence enters the holy establishment. The site of this scurvy scoundrel makes grown men cower and women and children flee. Enter.............. Captain Flintlock and his trusty mate. ☠️ As we plunder through the sale we stepped into the back room marked “jewelry”. Baskets filled to the brim with small bags of various jeweled items. After plucking our handful of bags I paid the $12 to the frightened little old lady. Ok, she wasn’t frightened and was actually quite pleasant.
So now that I set the stage, here’s a rundown of what we found. My wife found a nice strand of pearls with a 14k clasp for $4.00. I had a small bag with a pair of sterling earrings and she had two other bags both with earrings. We found out that those were 3 for $1.00. In one of her bags were a small pair of sterling with pearl and CZ earrings, a pair of 14k with citrine stones. And a beautiful pair of 14k and real diamond earrings. Each about 1/4 carat. So two pair of gold earrings for basically 33 cents! I found a 14k butterfly pendant with real diamonds for $4.00. It’s the one sold on QVC. And finally a weird bracelet marked sterling for $3.00. It almost looks fake but it did acid test positive. The earrings and pearls are keepers for my wife. Later in the morning we stopped at another yard sale and I picked up this nice early American hand blown etched wine decanter with the original top and nice pontil mark for $5.00. A fair days booty!!
