You can find answers to all those questions without asking. Scan all of the post on this site or sort alphabetically and look for penny box or penny's in the title.

I believe G Man and Immy are penny experts and you can sort by clicking the author column, and read their posts. Or click on their name and check their profile, it will have recent posts in their profile.

I recently stated getting $50 bags of penny's and find about a dozen Wheaties per bag. I have fond 1 Indian head penny and 1 proof penny. Out of about 20 bags so far.
I do not hoard all the copper (pre 82) but pull any nice cherry examples of anything between 1959 thru 1982 and of course all Wheaties.

Pennies suck they are dirty, nasty, time consuming and hard on the eyes...... But I am an addict. I don't expect to make any money on them. Just hoard. Maybe someday my youngest son or grandson will cash in...?

I've searched 34 boxes of pennies so far this year and find that my average is 8.6 wheats per box. Also found 1 IHC and 1 proof. I've just started looking for errors and man is that hard on my eyes.

I have checked 97 boxes of pennies so far this year. I have found 773 wheats, 9 IH, 986 Canadian, and 1 Panama cent. Dirty but fun to do when sitting in front of the TV watching games.

Your IH finds are exceptional for that many pennies. The average IH find out of that pile should be 2 or less!

I've had a steady average of 2 wheaties per $10 in the first six months this year. Indians are a fluke. The four I've found are my first since 2002, so you can go long stretches without finding one. I've never been skunked on $40-$50 in pennies, 4 is the least I've found.

As far as nickels, $100 will net you on average 20-30 pre-1960 dates and one or two war nickels. Buffalos are slightly more common than Indian pennies, and Liberty's have been known to appear (I've found three over the years).

These numbers are for 2008 only for me.

Pennies:
I have currently found 2990 wheats and 3 IHC through 795,435 pennies (~318 boxes)
That works out to about 9.39 per $25 box and an IHC every 5403 rolls

I have yet to ever find a flying eagle (nor has anyone on this board listed one)

Nickels:
I have searched through 197,327 nickels (~98.5 boxes)

6 V-nickels (4 were in one bag...kinda odd)
15 buffalos
65 War Nickels
2358 pre-1960 Jefferson (includes war nickels)

0.06 V-Nickels/box (1 in every 833 rolls)
0.15 Buffalos/box (1 in every 333 rolls)
0.66 War Nickels/box
23.90 pre-1960 Jefferson/box
