Found a couple relatively new sites! An army camp from the 1870's indian wars in NW Nebraska, and a rocky outcropping a mile away where a wagon trail passed through. Probably my best two days of relic hunting!
That un fired 45-70 is called a central fire. Does it have a brass or copper case. I have an unfired central fire 45-70 with a copper case found at a cavalry outpost with lots of other items. Great finds keep on looking.
Excellent finds! That's my main target here in AZ.... 1860's to 80's military encampment's. Get back and hit it hard, I've returned to spots that I was sure wouldn't give up anything else, and then up pops a real keeper. Last week it was an unfired 44 Colt round, which was only made for the 1871 conversions of the 1860 revolver and an unfired 50-70 govt. I hit that place at least twice before.
last year, I hit a spot that ended up producing 14 general service buttons total, on 5 different trips! So get back there and plan on spending a long day.
