Although, no one had any good tips for me on MDing Cable Beach (although I did get some wishes for good luck), I did manage to find some coins - 106 to be exact. I found both Bahamian and US quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies, and one canadian penny.

I used a cheap $70 Bounty Hunter, Pioneer EX from Walmart and found 106 coins in about 4 hours of MDing. The quarters were everywhere so tried to concentrate on the nickel, pull tab signals so I could find a ring but I still only found coins. It was pretty exciting to have so many targets though. I'm buying a nicer water proof detector next month.

Oh, a gent walked up and told me that he found coins laying on the beach at one spot at low tide. I hit the spot a low tide the next day and sure enough, coins on top of the sand.

Surely there were rings and jewelery there, right? I think not being able to pinpoint in the wet sand with the cheap MD hurt me. Most of my finds were in dry sand. If you're going to Nassau, let me know and I'll fill you in on more details.

I love this site. Thanks, Jason.

Here's a pic of the beach. I had to take one early in the day so you could see the sand (I didn't get too many bikini clad women in them) :)

What's the best water proof MD for a $400-$500 budget?

:)

It's cold and rainy here in DC also. Hey, some of the beach MD specialists should consider going to Nassau for a trip. I didn't see a single detector while there for a week and the coins were so easy to find I'm sure there's more there.

I just knew I was going to find gold. I think I needed a nicer machine. I'll take care of that soon.

Welcome to Treasure Net.

I would be willing to bet there was jewelry there, but it is usually found in the wet sand and in the water. With the amount of coins you found it is obvious it hasn't been detected in a while at the very least.

You will have a hard time getting a good NEW water detector for $400-$500 that is worth the price, but you can pick up some good used water detectors for $400-$700. I would check out used Whites Beach Hunter IDs, it is a really good machine, and light enough to be used for both land and water hunting. Minelab Excals, and Minelab Sovereign GTs are great, you can take the Excal to about 220 feet below the surface, but your can't get the controls on a Sov wet, the coil is totally waterproof, and one of the best machines you can use on wet sand and low surf at the beach. I have an Excal, and 2 Sovereign GTs, one of which was customized to be waterproof.

These are just the ones I have owned and know, there are others and other water hunters will post on them I am sure.............

Good luck and welcome to the addicition

My first and worst detector was the $79 bounty hunter. Just sold it at a garage sale for cheap, but it was a start to this great hobby! You will be AMAZED at the difference when you get a higher quality detector. With the clad you find, save up for the upgrade -- nice how this hobby can make you a little cash. That spot in the Bahamas looks like heaven. Next time you go you will find gold and gems! It's there. And be sure to post for us!

sweet! i would love to do that. As far as the rings go it's just a matter of being at the right place at the right time. I bet you can't wait to go back with a new machine.

Wow ! Looks like a beautiful place to do some detecting.I was in Philippines in November and I was sure choked I hadn;t brought the detector as the beaches are white sand. I have a Tesoro Tiger Shark for water hunting. It really does the job well for me and it has a Life time warranty.I paid 400 for mine and have never regretted it for a minute. The first ring I found in the water at the local beach was gold.Seeing that ring in my scoop was a rush.HH....Panz
