BACK TO MY VERY 1ST CELLAR HOLE*FOLDED COPPER & A SADDLE SHIELD

was bored today and not many places to choose from.I decided to go back to my very 1st cellar hole.It was where I dug my very 1st cellar hole coppers.draped bust,King George II & a matron head.I have brought Dan,George & Jessie to this site and all pretty much scored coppers here,,, well..... let me rephrase that... all the guys using White's machine's have scored coppers at this site.I won't mention the e-trac users name rofl
This cellar hole has been hit hard by some seasoned pro's and things were pretty quiet for the most part.I was kickin branches and rolling rotted trees. I was diggin anything that slightly beeped iron and all. 4 hours and going slow I managed a bent over wiped out large copper(Connectiut copper underneath is for size comparison) makes ya wonder who did this & why?
a nice saddle shield.a small cuff button with an acorn motiff and a designed oval drawer hardware? or is it a saddle guide plate? I have dug numerous of these at colonial sites and only one had the 2nd piece.that piece is similiar in shape to the back piece of a bridle rosette.so it could be some sort of strap guide. and a few pieces of old lead.
ticks are still out like crazy so please continue to be careful. for the record if ya hold your bic lighter to em while on pant leg they pop like popcorn!

Strange your ticks, there usually gone about end of July or so around here :dontknow:

Are yours tobacco brown color, about 3/16 dia. ?

I got zero coppers today, and was at what I thought was a good spot.

No idea why someone would go to that much trouble to wreck a coin.

yes, it seems that this site was previously beaten ... but still gives findings.
I have no problem with ticks, but there are some very large spiders that build their networks in the vineyards and the networks hit with spiders attack and hide in the clothes ... even come home with me. :-\

Some excellent finds there HMN!! I first thought the little saddle shield was one of those rein end decorative pieces but they are shaped differently. Great very old recoveries. HH, Quindy.

Nice finds for a burnt out site. I like finding those oval pieces with designs on them. I understand they went on saddles, but I haven't been able to find an example of a colonial saddle that shows one on it.

Re: BACK TO MY VERY 1ST CELLAR HOLE*FOLDED COPPER & A SADDLE SHIELD

i'm sure it's been covered a million times but permethrin is a must for ticks. works 100% for me. i used to be covered with ticks when i got home and it sucked but now i don't worry at all. i lay my clothes out the night before and coat them all with duranon (permethrin) and let them dry over night. zero ticks!!!

Hey, I see what your saying about the acorn. But could it not also be a thistle? just my thoughts. Seems to be more "centered" with the "thistle" pointing up.
