Back to Rev. War era house today...

...where last week I found 1780s Connecticut Copper coin and Submerged found 1857 Flying Eagle Cent. Today I found an interesting button, no camera handy, but it is round and looks exactly like 3/4 of a musketball, about the same size. The loop out the back is in perfect shape. Along the edge on the back of the button it appears to say "Extra Hole" in small letters. Any ideas on ID? This appears to be at least 100 years old, but could easily be older. (No other writing on button.) Thanks.
