Back to the 1890's farm fields

Got out for a few hours this morning to do some relic hunting back at a farm I've been hitting. No coins, but did get a couple keepers. Two buttons. One is the round ball kind, and a flat button that says Rich Gold I think. I can't read the last word yet. Also some kind of a clasp that says President on the front and Spirley make on the back. Looks like it could be a suspender clasp possibly. A cow bell that says Oct 2 1876 patd. Still works after I got the dirt out of it. A few other odds and ends. Lots of iron stuff too. Going back to the place next to it tomorrow where I got the 1940's silver and wheats from. Happy Hunting and Happy Holidays.

Re: Back to the 1890's farm fields

I found this on the President suspenders.

George Frost Building, Leominster Road, Shirley, Mass
The structure was built in 1881 with the clock tower being an addition of 1890. It was owned by Charles A. Edgarton at that point. The nationally-distributed President Suspenders were manufactured here. Later the President Suspender Co. merged with George Frost who manufactured belts (Boston Belts), and eventually they got into athletic protective gear (All-Star Athletic Products). The All Star Division still does a very good business in a new building located across the brook.

Nice stuff!

Is that piece of iron on the left an old fashioned chisel?
I think it's just a nail.

Nice finds. Love the clasp!! Researched it indepth, but didn't come up with anything that the others hadn't already discovered.

Nice finds! What is that round button made of? I found a round object recently that I thought was a shotgun slug but I don't think that it is lead. What is the measurement of your round button? Thanks for the info.

Mike, looks like a typical day of finds :) I got one or two of those President suspender clips also. The nail looks 20th century, not sure about the round button, that could be an oldie..

Happy Holidays to you and your family
