Back to the "Button Field"; Some Scovill Military Buttons, a Rosette and more...
I went back to the spot where I found the 1875 Indian Head (in my avatar). I didn't have much luck with coins except a sad looking penny, which is either 1913 or 1923. I did get a few nice post civil war Scovill buttons, two army and one Navy, and a few other buttons as well. I know the army buttons are pre 1918 by the shank, but I am not sure on the navy button as the shank is gone. Any ID is appreciated. I have now found more than 35 buttons at this site. The area I have been hunting on my last few outings is turning up buttons that are more than 100 years newer than the section I detected in the spring. I will not be able to get back to that section of the site until late fall when the foliage is gone.
For those of you who are interested, they were about 7 inches deep and were very trashy sounding. I was thinking shotgun shell when I dug the first. (LESSON: DIG THOSE "IFFY" SIGNALS). The Navy button still has fabric attached!
Some of the other finds:
Old clock winder. How come I never dig the clocks!
One half brass key plate
A "Wattizit" Glass attached to metal...Any guesses?
