Back to the 'Nature Park' - Some Older Finds!

I headed back to a park for 3hrs today that I've been hunting every Sunday morning for the past month. This is a park which very few children play in except for in winter to go tobogganing here. I'm finding a a few relics left over from the farm that was here back in the late 1800's, as well as, some more modern finds. I am gridding the park carefully as not to leave any ground uncovered. I feel strongly that there has to be a silver coin or a ring hiding somewhere here, this is what keeps me coming back!

Finds for the day ...

Broken Horseshoe, Brass Buckle w/Heart, Suspender Clip, a 'Whatsit' piece :icon_scratch: , a 1940, '43 & '67 Penny + $2.36 in coinage!

Thanks for looking and best of luck to you,
Dave

Dave that little ornate buckle is beautiful! I think I would have a hard time putting the detector away there. Very nice looking place.

Thanks for your kind words Glen! :occasion14:
I'll be honest with you ... I don't display my finds, although I do categorize them in labelled drawers.
I have drawers labeled 'Special Keepers', Pre-1900 Buttons, 'Bullets', 'Silver Coins & Rings', 'Junk Jewelery' etc.
You and Carson are doing well this year too my friend,
Dave

Thanks for your post Arg! :hello:
The weather this morning was perfect for detecting too ... 75F with a nice breeze.
It doesn't get much better then that buddy, :laughing7:
Dave

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

I hear you buddy, but my wife only lets me detect from 8am - 11am on Sundays! :laughing7:
Any other time I detect it's on 'work time', so hopefully my boss never finds out!
Dave

Thanks very much for the picture Sobo, your clip is definitely a match and it's in much better condition too! :notworthy:
Best of luck to you,
Dave

The one piece looks like an elevator sight for a military rifle.

That's a very interesting theory Pointman. :icon_scratch:
This piece is made of spelter or possibly pot metal, I have it in the tumbler along with the 'Heart Buckle'.
I'll post a picture of both tomorrow night after a 24 hour run.
Thanks again for your suggestion,
Dave

Thanks for your input papa . . . how old would that make the 'rifle sight' then? :dontknow:

I just discovered this about the 'Heart Buckle' ... :icon_thumleft:

"Although it's often listed as a horse harness buckle, this heart-embossed item is really a buckle shield, made to fit on top of the actual buckle.
Recent finds suggest that some of these harness buckle shields were in use in Civil War time. However, they were a civilian item, not military issue.
There is generally no direct evidence (mfgr.'s marks, etc.) which can be used to prove that they are CW or postwar.
They were still widely used in the early 1900's".

I hit the park I doing now 7 or eight times and the best I would get was the early wheats from the ten years. Now I'm hitting v-nickels, buffalos, Barber dimes and Indian heads. It's like when it starts to give it up it keeps going. Remember go slow, use pro zero and the 9 x 11 coil. Then almost scrub the ground with your coil. My barbers and indians are from the 7 to 9 inch range. Most of all keep going you'll start scoring soon.

Happy hunting with many deep signals

Gotta love the Pro

Thanks very much for the info Mack!
I started hunting the park a few weeks ago using the 5" x 8" coil, as I found the soil to be very trashy around the trees in certain areas. But today I switched to the 8.5" x 11" as I'm now hitting more of the open areas.
I find the larger coil adds considerably more weight to the AT and takes a bit longer to pinpoint the targets, but I feel I get more depth from it.

I'm currently use the AT in Pro '0' with Iron Discrimination at 35 and the Sensitivity is at 7 of 8.

Thanks for your post and good luck to you,
Dave
