Back to the old Fairgrounds 'cause I couldn't wait for the weekend - silver

Ok, so I have not an ounce of self control this week. After the V-nickel I just couldn't wait for Saturday. Put on my LED headlamp and went out to the woods behind the park where the fairgrounds used to be.

Dug a couple of memorials, plenty of little pieces of miscellaneous antique crappe. Decided to head for the parking lot. Cut through the area that has so much brush and trash that even I have avoided it. And there comes a nice silver tone on the quattro. Dug through rotting wood and sticks to find a 1916 S Barber Dime. Sweet little dime, but it has me in real trouble. Now I am going to have to detect that whole area that is so thick with crappe and brush that it is nearly unwalkable in summer. Obviously there is silver there.......

Told my wife I was coming back out tonight on Halloween. She has more self control than I do. Apparently more control of myself than I do also. I will be handing out candy.

Mark

Mark,

You need to get a lawnmower out there or a weed whacker so you can detect the whole area. Those areas will have random drops of oldies....maybe even pocket spills.

How about detecting with your Halloween mask on tonight? ;D ;D You'd look pretty scary with a detector in one hand and a week whacker in your other. :o ;D

Nice barber dime!

Hey Dan,
Weed whacker won't help much. This area is in woods with thick saplings tight together. It also happens to be where much of the junk was pushed when the Fairgrounds was changed to the school football field in the 50's. Old logs and piles of trash covered in weeds and sticks.

Weeds are waist high, but dead now. I would need a chainsaw and a chain gang to clean it up! But I guess that's why nobody else ever went in there much. I will use my 5" coil and all the patience I can muster.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Bryce. If no self control is a virtue I should be a member of the clergy! LOL.

Maybe it was the sneek attack attitude of the hunt...You snuck right up on Mr. Barber and plucked it from the ground! Nice digs...jgas Did you find some Snipes too????? LOL....

Thanks Everyone!

Well Jgas, it may well have been the sneak attack thing that worked. As far as the snipes, I'm sure I saw a couple. If you are interested I'm sure I could set up a Snipe Hunt for you. Just let me know, I'm absolutely positive we can arrange something.

Well,

I would just go back in the spring with your sniper coil you won't have so much brush and fresher stuff. Can't help much about the trees, roots and dead logs but. One time I was hunting in the woods and pushed a log over with my foot to hunt under it and found a real nice old button.

Nice Hunting, good job !!

Keep @ it and HH!!

Easy does it! take the area in very small slow bites and before long you will have covered it all. With many more special coins to show for your persistence. Nice coin !! HHHH

Give it a try in springtime - yes I know that is SO far away - just as the snow melts and before the brush starts growing. Hopefully anything remaining from the fall will be mashed down and the soggy ground should get you the deep stuff. Good luck.
