Have you tried a web search? I haven't read these, as I'm overdue for bed!! But I did a search for how to test a coil for a metal detector and got quite a few results back. One of the results was a Google patent on testing the resistance of a metal detector coil. Another is a YouTube video about How to repair a faulty metal detector coil:

Try a different coil, if your problems go away then the problem is most likely your blue max coil.
