I was thinking small bell too but doesn't look real modern. Can we see a shot of the bottom, opposite the loop? Of course, Crusader is used to finding stuff from Roman times so his idea of modern probably differs greatly from mine!

You know I thought a bell also at first but it's seriously old. Maybe it is maybe not. That's why I brought it to you experts. The patina does reflect whatever it is that it is old. Thanks for comments. New pics at top as requested. Thanks guys!
