I was walking through my father in laws recently plowed field and
noticed this laying just on the outside edge of one of the rows and
my father in law at first thought it was a spear weight but several
others on here think it may be a banner stone, what do you all think?
It is about 6 inches long and the stone itself had swirls or cirles in it.
I will get better picsas soon as i get my camera back from my sis in law.

Allen I put it in a photo program and looked at it. It does look like slate and is a fantastic piece. Crazy to dodge the plow all these years. Find a whole one is very rare. You need to post some decent pictures. I think that Banner stone is banner with good pics. I am hitting the button.

Re: Banner stone

WOW!!!!!

That is a banner (pun intended, lol) find if I ever saw one. To find a Pick Bannerstone in that condition in a plowed field is a very rare occurrance. It must have just been brought to the surface on the last plowing. Once in a lifetime find right there allen. Awesome find!!!!

Re: Banner stone

I've hunted things like this for years without finding anything close to that one....and some people just stumble across it. LOL! My nephew was at the hunting lease a few days ago and looked down and found a very nice Gary. Another nephew found a 4" point in his dog pen a couple weeks ago. I have to go looking and usually wind up short.......super find allen! :icon_thumright: You can probally upgrade that MD now..... ;D

Man ...what a find. You're extremely lucky to find one in that condition. That field must have never been plowed. I'd love to see some close ups of the material and drilled hole if you get the chance to compare to a piece I picked up. I found half a bannerstone like that and the material is very similar. Did you find anything else in the field? Congrats on the find.
ive never even found a piece of flint in that field :icon_scratch:
