Since our CW sites are obstructed with vegetation, we sometimes turn to artifact hunting this time of year. Longtime friend Steve (who also grew up on the Cumberland River hunting artifacts) invited me to hunt a Native American site that we hunted last year. In fact, I wrote an American Digger Magazine article on our experience that was published last year entitled “Seems like Old Times”. They also included that article in their 2015 online sampler magazine issue available on their website. Unfortunately, we only go to hunt the site twice since soybeans were planted and the process covered the flint.
We returned to the site last Saturday morning and had good luck as shown in the first pic. A little more rain was needed to further expose the flint so we decided to return yesterday after early week rain. Our finds from that hunt are shown in the second pic followed by a pic of Steve & myself. This was apparently a large village dating back to at least 7,000 years ago. To date, we have not recovered any Paleo artifacts there.
Last year, I found a hammerstone in that camp but it was hot and my pack was already full of flint, rocks, and half a celt. I set the hammerstone down and tried to recall landmarks where I could return and find it, Well, you guessed it-lost it. I couldn’t find it on the second hunt last year or last Saturday’s hunt. Well, Steve found it yesterday (lucky it wasn’t plowed under) and returned it to me. Thanks Steve! Enjoy the video and HH, Q.

Quindy, looks like that field still has plenty of artifacts in need of rescue. Good work guys. It's been a while since I went looking for NA artifacts.

Great job Quindy and Steve on saving history one piece at a time. Y'all found some nice arrowheads and tools. I look forward to seeing more from that field after a good, hard rain.

Way to go :)

Steve, no till farming has really hurt artifact and CW relic hunting. We were fortunate to find a site that was deep plowed. Artifact hunting is easier on your wrists and you don't need a shovel-LOL. HH, Q.

GREAT video! I really miss hunting for artifacts like these. Only ever found precious few of them, all eyeballed on the surface while detecting. But there don't seem to be any flint artifacts in South Louisiana. The only flint pieces we've ever seen were gun flints!

Excellent video and what an awesome hunt. :icon_thumright: I've never found a Native American artifact, but I cant wait for the day that one shows up in a plug. It's hard to wrap my head around just how old those points and tools are. What a fantastic field you guys have there.
