Hey guys, I'm looking at going overseas (Italy) in the near future. I'm planning on taking my Metal Detector and Pinpointer.
My question is, Can I leave the batteries home and purchase them when I get there?
Surfmaster would need AA and the Pinpointer is a 9v.
(I think flying without batteries might make the Airport Authorities a little more comfortable.) :dontknow:

Not sure about batteries in Italy but I've flown with my detector with batteries and never had a problem.

I always check my detector. If you plan on bring it in a carry on they may want to see you turn it on to make sure it is functioning and not just a shell carrying explosives. They have made me do this in the past with my laptop.

To be safe just call the airline and ask but when vacationing I bring a digital camera, video camera, laptop and a few battery operated toys for the kids and they have never been a problem with any of these battery operated items.

NJ

P.S. Just don't have anything with a point or sharp edge in your carry one (nail clippers, scissors, razor, pocket knife, digger, etc)

We're quite civilized over here in Europe lol. Yeah Italy will have those batteries, but take yours anyhow as finding a store that sells them off the bat might be awkward until you know your way around a little.

"Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, is the person who invented the battery in 1800. Volta has also made important discoveries in pneumatics, meteorology and electrostatics, but his greatest invention for all humankind was the first every battery. "

Looks like hammered's still out rioting and looting in London. He'll be able to keep his family fed on biscuits and pomegranites for months now!
Anyhow...you still use foodstamps over there? It's too primative for us. Not used them since WW2. Then again you're always a few years behind the rest of us a lot of the time ain't you? :)

You should worry about your own welfare payments mate. At least our government pays ours on time!

(Hammered may actually think that you and your unmentionable detector are beneath him responding until you get out enough to have 3 "banner" awards under your name and reach his status. Dunno?) ;D

oh yes we still thrive off welfare and food stamps!

A welfare state is a "concept of government in which the state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well-being of its citizens. It is based on the principles of equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and public responsibility for those unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. The general term may cover a variety of forms of economic and social organization."[1]
Modern welfare states include countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland[2] which employ a system known as the Nordic model. The welfare state involves a direct transfer of funds from the state, to the services provided (i.e. healthcare, education) as well as directly to individuals ("benefits"). The welfare state is funded through redistributionist taxation and has been referred to as a type of "mixed economy"

I think i see Sweden in that mix! :dontknow:

You do indeed. However, Like the UK, Sweden (and the others) is way too advanced to use food stamps. Which was my point! :)

ALRIGHT! ALRIGHT! ALREADY!
Enough with the negative.
You guys bring up a good question though.

If my wife needs an electrical adaptor for her hair dryer and I do for my electric razor, why are batteries the same there as they are here?

:dontknow:
