Technically Beltzville state park does not close.

However Due to Cuts or other reasons
they may have Locked the gate.
not sure what effects these cuts have made.
Maybe For the Better/Maybe Not.

IF There are not any Signs saying
stay out you should be able to
go in.

As with all state parks You are supposed
to call & advise them Prior to your
visit if you intend to Metal detect.
Unless you have an open
invitation already from
DCNR to "go at it & Have Fun whenever"

I think its more of a retaliatory action from the state.

Yep I Agree

an excuse to say We arn't getting paid enough to open the gate :tongue3:
& Hope people Complain they should have a Pay raise :tongue3:

Whether These Circumstances
would Effect gaining Permission
I Don't know.

They could say Hey, I'm not getting paid
enough to stop you.

OR They could say I'm not getting Paid
enough To sayy go ahead. & Just tell
you No.

a Suggestion If they cry Poverty
and say they arn't Being paid
enough or because of Cuts "NO"

Ask if they are getting Paid enough to Come after you
if you Do anyway ;D

I know there was rumors about cutbacks and possible park closings. But I have checked every web site I could think of and have read nothing about any being closed except for some historic parks being closed.
I am only hoping that it was closed for the holiday because someone decided to sleep to long and take the day off.
Guess I am going to have to wait til Monday and call the office to find out what is happening.
Thank you for the replies
Joe

During the budgit impasse, there were threats from the DCNR to close a bunch of parks permanantly because of funding cuts. In the Post Gazette, there was a whole list of parks on the chopping block. I cut it out and if I can find it, I'll post the list.
I haven't seen any follow-ups if they did indeed close any.

I know Old Economy Park in Beaver County is cutting it's work force and eliminating a lot of services because of budgit cuts.

As far as the gate being locked....a county park in Beaver County does that but you can still walk in. It's only to keep moterized vehicles out.

Exactly, I have been to Economy Park a bunch of times with the lower gates locked. You can still use the park at your own risk. They usually lock the gates in the winter months because nothing much is going on at that time.

Brush Creek Park is the same way. Alot of times, during off peak season you will find the entrance gate closed. And sometimes that gate will be open and just the second gate closed to the back part of the park. It's still open, but they close the gates for peoples safety and to keep folks from possibly getting stuck in the snow in many cases.
