Have been using the CTX for about 1 year now and very happy so far, lots of good stuff found but I am just wondering if maybe I could do even better with the perfect settings.

Now that I am back in Germany with many fields that offer potential Roman or medieval finds i would like to ask the experts here what you think the best settings for wide open fields are?

Currently running in

COINS
RECOVER DEEP ON
RECOVER FAST ON
TARGET SEPARATION LOW TRASH
Ground balance- Automatic
Sensitivity - Auto (never messed with it)

Is low trash really better? Am I possibly masking goodies close to big iron since it will only grab the stronger signal? ( Because I am using Coin mode so Iron does not even sound off)
If I use high trash will I lose depth?

Should I mess with the sensitivity at all?

Thanks for any advice!

Increased sensitivity will increase depth at the expense of possibly more noise. Pay attention to what you are hearing and seeing, listen through the noise- and reap the benefits.

Modified relic program:
For searching,
- 2tones(breaking at around 21)
- Deep on
- Fast off
- Low trash
- Ferrous coin
- Open screen completely
When iron patch is found,
- 2 tones
- Deep off
- Fast on
- High trash
- Ferrous coin
- Completely open screen

Tried the recommended settings today but IMO target separation Ferrous coin is extremely confusing.. I see the point of having the blue dot and the red dot for the iron and the good targets but why would it not make an audible sound for the good target? Does it mean in ferrous coin I have to constantly watch the screen?

Where do you have the ferrous line set? I usually drop it down to line 17 or so. With these setting you will hear two tones, low grunt for iron, high tone for everything else above line 17.

I will try that out, thanks for the help! So when the iron grunt appears, of course I check the display and see if in addition to the blue iron target there is anything else coming through on the display, right? How about response normal vs response long? Would long response help the silver come through if its masked or do you think it is all the same?

Response normal. You can check the display however learn to listen to the two tones.
