This might be my best metal detecting find ever. Today I found a missile head on the outer banks of North Carolina. Apparently these turn up occasionally because the military used this area as a training ground between the 1940's & 60's. It was in about 10" of sand near the ocean edge at low tide. It registered zinc which could also be brass. I stopped a sheriff and he was 99.9% sure it was a missile. He obviously relieved me of this treasure and told me they have a bunker to store things like this in until the Navy picks it's up to destroy. That tops the men's wedding band I found on Sunday in Kill Devil Hills.

Agreed... a picture would have been great.

I'm not familiar with missile heads, there are none in my part of the woods. Would this have fit in a bread box? Are they inches in diameter and length or feet in diameter and length? Is it illegal to have one in your possession. Are they dangerous to carry around. Inquiring minds want to know.
