Most retail chains don't allow that. I was a retail manager and even if the product was in perfect condition if it was zeroed out we HAD to throw it out. We always had to have a print out and a witness when doing so.

Yep, this is what I've heard as well. I've also heard of people asking that, and then all of a sudden all the stuff in the dumpsters is destroyed, so I'll just keep checking the dumpster lol
