The black hole between Montana and Colorado.
Detector(s) used
Truffle seeking pig modified for metal.

The results have been so-so

When the pig fails me (which is often), I am relegated to a CTX3030 *sigh*. Like the dark ages or something.

Folks round these parts all have "truck guns". Basically, a very reliable and stout rifle that can be thrown under the seats and not worried about.

I want to find the same thing in a detector. I drive 1K miles a week, and generally end up in some desolate town which is 100+ years old. I have free time in the evenings and think detecting would pass the time.

I WON'T be taking my super nice machine, so I need a cheaper one which can take some abuse. What do ya'll recommend?

Easy, purchase a very hard used suit case add some pieces of foam to the inside and take any detector you want! Drive and have fun later with no fear..............63bkpkr

Oh, I do not think Any Detector will take a lot of abuse

I have a Minelab Musketeer Advantage that is equivalent to a truck rack rifle. All analog but rugged and indellicate. As deep as any but very little notching ability.

The trouble with the Musketeer they quit making it some time ago,...... It is hard to find one............ Then if it breaks down you might not be able to get it repaired

I really like the look of the Tesoro made stuff. It has a very rugged industrial look that reminds me of government specific radio equipment.

I think one of them would be a fine addition to the truck. It could hang from the topper ceiling until needed.

It would help pass the time on these remote jobs.

I carried a Bounty Hunter Landstar a million miles in my 18 wheeler . Steady low end vibration would actually rub the print from paperback books i carried . That detector is still working almost 20 years later .

Neat to see so many OTR drivers here. My grandfather drove triples for CooP and ABF for 30 years. I remember riding around with him during summers.

My "truck" is a 1/2 ton service truck. Don't think I could get a big tractor to any of the places I go to. Too vertical LOL.

Thanks for the recommendations and stories. I always enjoy that kind of stuff.

Don't be too sure about where a big truck can go . I traversed a lot of those remote mountain canyons in the western lands to where the dozer would help me on in to where the helicopter would pick off my load .

Most of mine was specialized/heavy haul . 16' wide , 100,000+lbs payload it takes a REALLLLYYYY STUPID liberal to dispute your right of way . Especially when you got a cop, or several , and 3 escorts telling them to get the F out of the way .
