We’ve had days upon days digging up harness iron in one small corner of our place. Today I was checking for stray/missed items. Got a few buckles, wire etc. Got a great, clear VID right beside the old corner post.
Came out with this item: a 1930 Dog License, number 1546, from Poweshiek County. It is riveted to leather (collar) but nearly all of it is rotted away. I’m guessing the old dog collar was hung up with the old harness leather and they were disposed of together. I’m going to see how good the county records are kept. Wouldn’t it be a hoot to return it to a family member?
Poweshiek County is several counties to the west of my locale.
