The wife just got back from grandpas widows house today and had a bunch of his MDing finds. One thing stands out. Its a very large, one peice flat button with shank in tact. It's about the size of a half dollar. No backmark. On the front, alternating in a circle around the center are 4 diamonds and 4 flowers. If I can post a pic I will but the image might be too big. I might be able to cut the image in half and post the two of them. Anyone got a guestimate for age, value?

Hard to guess age from that pic but I bet that sucker rang out loud and clear! I love diggin' buttons. They are so much more personal than say a bullet.

As posted in "What Is It?":

Looks like one of the large, sometimes gilt copper buttons with hand engraved &/or punched designs (often geometrical) of the late 1700's.
