So My first time detecting at the beach and thanks to fellow Tnet members I got my pro ground balanced and started swinging. I got the usual stuff a hot wheels truck a fake gold (I think) Capitol A pendent thing and some clad (two late 60s go figure) but the one wild card was this HUGE bullet about 8inchs down in the wet sand. It's a monster and I have no clue how it got here but it's pretty cool. Any idea what gun could shoot this thing?!? Or how old it might be? Either way had a great time and will be back at it tomorrow.

Old military .50 caliber casing...made in 1943. Maybe fired from an aircraft, though they put .50's on just about everything. I find a few of them on our local desert, which was an aircraft firing range during war 2.

It's amazing where those things turn up.

2nd from left is a US .50 bmg bullet. I found it on my farm in Australia, no where near a military base.

Awesome, so it's ww2 then? What would it be doing in ocean city MD hmm. Is it live? Can it hurt me? Lol seriously though I don't find many bullets and the ones I do look nothing like this.

Yep. Aircraft. I was in a field on the atlantic coast of delaware some years ago and started digging those right and left. All within a short distance of the look out towers from WWII. They were littered across a much older homesite.

Mackdigger where did you find the bullet? I found a 50 cal bullet like that last year in Nags Head North Carolina while on vacation.
