This is another one that will require a little research. Up in the Pend Oreille country north of Spokane big dgedges were brought in to work the gold deposits. At one location after sampling and testing it was decided that the first screen would be 4". It was discovered years later that there were a few nuggets that were bigger than 4". The locals and weekenders would spend their time pitching rocks off the dredge piles in the hopes of finding one of the big ones. I remember reading in the Spokane paper or one of the Treasure Magazines in the 1970's of a guy who found one and it weighed nearly 9lbs. I don't know about you, but I could pitch a lot of rocks for a 9 pounder.

Wouldn't that be fun in 95 degree heat...What would you use on those dredge piles a pitchfork or shovel or your hands?
