Metal Detecting
I was just wondering yesterday why I haven't found any big silver lately. Earlier in the year I found around 6 or 7 silver halves. It always amazes me that someone actually lost something that big and I found it.

I was at a mid-forties home site detecting a really steep slope in the yard with my F75DST. Those steep slopes have always been productive for me. I guess people lost their money by sitting on them or rolling down them. When I was kid I played on them all time with my friends.

Along with the 1936 Half Dollar, I found a 1956 Rosie, 5 Wheat Pennies and some clad coins. I thought that had another half dollar cornered but it turned out to be a stack of 3 quarters around 5 inches deep. Rats! It sounded so good.

This was my 86th hunt for the year and my grand total for silver coins this year is 232.
I'll total all my gold and silver rings and other jewelry at the end of the year.

Very nice! Not often one digs a big silver half like that! Plus a silver Rosie too! :treasurechest::icon_thumleft:

Super silver hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

That's crazy cool! Just in time for Christmas too. I never thought to log every hunt. Thats a good idea!

I never get tired of seeing those "Walkers" I've been fortunate to find two of them so far. Very Nice !

Thanks everyone! I'm going to hang around the house tomorrow. I might do some research on the computer to see if I can find some more places to detect.

What's the address of that place so I can hit it on my vacation? :laughing7:

Very nice !!!! Back in the day if you had a half in your pocket, you had the world by the tail....

Back in the fifties when I was kid a half dollar would buy 10 cokes, 10 hand scooped ice cream cones or 10 huge Baby Ruth candy bars. Back in the thirties when this coin was minted I bet it would buy a lot more. Losing a half dollar back then was a big deal, so that's why I'm so amazed every time that I find one.

Congratulations on another wonderful recovery and successful season, tabman!! You've inspired me to make next year better than this one.........thanks!!

I have had good success on slopes, inclines and hillsides and have a theory about them........as the ground saturates with moisture, gravity tends to pull the coins down the slope instead of straight down into the ground, keeping them closer to the surface. The specific gravity of the coins in relation to the ground moisture saturation tends to be skewed in favor of the sloping ground.............

Do you think I'd dig more silvers if I changed my name to "Beaver-Tail Guru" ? You're killing it with a name like tabman. Congrats on that walker and the dime. :occasion14:

Said it before, I'll say it again.....
I like big girls.
