Here's a Boatstone found in 1900 in Columbia Co. Ar. (on the LA. AR. state line north of Shreveport) by John L. Mooney who passed it along to his daughter Ella who later became Ella Farmer of Jonesville LA. from there it went to Paul Hodges then to George Snellings from George to me back in 1995. It's one of my favorite Hardstone pieces. It's 2 15/16 inches long.

Super piece and right around my stomping grounds (the entire state...ha-ha).

Congrats on being the proud owner.

I have one out of Arkansas myself. The material is slate. It's large for the type.

If I find a photograph, I will post the same.

Thanks for sharing and I loved the history,

Very nice, but what were they believed to be used for?

Molly.
It's one of the Problematical artifacts, Nobody knows for sure, lots of speculation but no proof. Some say Shaman's cup for mixing potions.
Some say it was a counter weight. The northern boats are typically drilled at each end, like a gorget. Southern boats are seldom drilled.

The History is a great thing on this piece. Lots of pieces found that far back have lost their History. Hopefully whomever winds up with
it when I'm gone will preserve the History. ----- If anyone else has any Boats post them on this thread please, I'd like to see them !
Thanks !
