Got out to a site this morning that I've hunted before but not for the last 3 years. It's an old site that dates back to the 1600s and I've previously found a cannon ball, old trade axe and lots of coppers. We were striking out and we made the decision to move on after one more target. My "one more target" turned out to be my favorite find in a long time...a large chunk of an exploded cannon! It was shallow and nearly blew my ear drums. Spent some time looking for more but will leave that for another day!*

Twice in the past 10 years I thought I had found a cannon but both time it turned out to be something else...this time I know!

That will take some amps on electrolysis! How far will blown cannon frags fly? Somewhere must be more as long as the parts were not recycled. Very nice find!

This was found in an area that saw heavy military activity between the French and English all through the late 1600s into the late 1700s. Based on where it was found I would say it is definitely pre Revolutionary War period.

Not only is the cannon piece cool but the bullet in wood. Been a while since I have found any in wood. How old do you think that is? Nice hunt sir!

Thanks...Probably do the apple cider vinegar soak and see how that goes. I don't have an electrolysis set up so will be a few weeks before it cleaned.

Thanks this is the second musketball in wood I've found this one is a French sized ball so somewhere in the 1700s
