Bought a crock at an auction

I thought I was going to have to tire my arm out bidding but ended up getting it for just under $30!!! I guess nobody seen it till it was too late. I felt like it was a twilight zone episode or something lol.

Any info is appreciated, I know nothing about it. Also I will be trying to sell it so I am interested in finding a possible value for it.

Looks like Italian majolica. There would have been a lid from the looks of it. Still a nice old piece.

I also thought it looked like Deruta until I noticed how old it is.I imagine the 1743 refers to the year the company "s f" was founded. I am guessing this piece dates to the mid 1800's. You do have a point though it does look Italian.

I would like to know what s f stands for.

Several sets of my great grandparents were given vases/ urns on their wedding days. With one sleeve being a man's, and the other being a woman's, being in front of a Christian cross, I suggest that this was a wedding gift with the year of the wedding being 1743. Or I am completely off of my rocker! Sub

Yep interesting piece of Majolica, I've never handled authentic old pieces personally but have seen many later reproductions (decorative apothecary shop style medicine jars). The grubby chipped base and areas of popped glaze are promising as it certainly looks like it's been sitting around a while, but my eyeballs aren't trained well enough to say if it is an original 18th century piece that's been sitting around 275 years or a repro only sitting around for 50 years. Either way 30 bucks was a safe gamble. I wouldn't hold my breath personally but if it is original it is worth a heckuvalot more than 30 bucks. Probably need to get in contact with specialist collectors who will have a good eye for the material. Very interesting pickup, I hope it turns out to be a 4-figure gem!

I am starting to think it is actually authentic pre 1800 Franciscan majolica. Where it was produced is a bit of a mystery though, I am thinking it was produced in the Americas.
