Here’s an item I found yesterday evening in the old field across the road from my house. This was the only decent item I found in the hour and a half before dark. It was a curious looking brass item and seemed Colonial but I didn’t want to post it until knew what it was.

It turns out to be part of a Brass Candle Snuffer Wick Trimmer Scissors, perhaps from the mid 1800s. The photo of the intact scissors is from a popular on-line auction site where a similar pair is currently for sale.

Thanks for looking!
Nick

That's a cool find - evocative of a by gone era !
Thanks, Argentium! It brings to mind simpler times when evening were lit by candles or lanterns.
Nice find congrats

Thanks, Professor of Engineering! It's great to find a 'curiosity' and figure out what it is.
Cool find, and EXCELLENT discovery of what they once were!
Thanks, Skippy SH13! I love challenges like this and learning about customs of the past.

I found one of these before & didn't know it.

While looking through unidentified finds from previous hunts, I discovered that I had another wick trimmer scissor piece and didn't realize it. Here's a couple of photos of it for comparison. This is part of the handle, rather than the blade.
