Brass cavalry? spur found at 1800's home site

Finally got out to a site I have been wanting to hit all year, but it has been in soybeans up until this week. With the harvest completed, I hit the site late this evening for a preliminary run and immediately hit a lot of big old iron and assorted farm detritus along the perimeter. I moved farther out into the field where I know the house stood and on the back side of the property I pulled this old brass spur from the ground. Nightfall ended my hunt much earlier than I wanted (dang daylight savings) but I hope to get out there again next week. My initial brief research tonight leads me to think this could be a cavalry spur from the 1800's, maybe even civil war era as the site is only a short distance from several known battle sites (Missouri) and saw a lot of movement of troops on both sides through the area during the conflict.

Anyone with greater experience or info than mine is welcomed to chime in and enlighten me as to whether this is a possible war time relic or a more common run-of-the-mill riding spur of later date. It has no markings or engraved areas, just smooth brass all around except for a few nicks from farm implements. The rowel is missing as well, so no help there. Thanks in advance for any input!

I'm no expert, but it looks like a match to a Confederate spur found in Crouch's book. ("Historic American Spurs" CS 4, pg. 52). Could you flip it over and show a pic of the rake? The strap plate looks like a match. Either way, sweet find!!

I am at work now, but when I get home I will get some additional daylight pics up and get a close up view of the rake. I was thinking CS on this as well initially, the rake neck is more squared than the Federal examples I have looked at. But happy in any case, was thrilled to dig it!! Thanks for the input!!

Here are some additional pics of the spur, hopefully these may show a little more detail to help identify it. [/ATTACH] IMG_20141106_153136771.jpg IMG_20141106_153224799.jpg
