Never know until then OP posts a photo off the butt end. The same design has been universally used on lots of things from canes to sword pommels and umbrellas.

The dimensions would also help.

The pommel to a saddle is a fairly sturdy attachment. The base of the OP's object doesn't show anything to attach to the saddle tree. This is a standard pommel. Consider it strong enough to wrap a rope around it and hold a full size steer.

I have the brass eagle here in front of me.It's the size of 1/2 large banana.The hole in bottom is a little bigger than a large cent dated 1841 found 10 feet from the eagle.There is wood still in it.It was from a site that appears on a 1873 map.I'm still looking for ideas or photos showing this relic.This photo of a saddle frame looks like it would be compatable.https://www.bing.com/images/search?...l&selectedindex=196&ajaxhist=0&vt=0&eim=0,1,6
