Found it at an estate sale, $15.
Has a dent in top, bell has a small deformity & is missing the mouthpiece chain but in very nice unpolished condition. The tuning slide is functional. Engraving/stamping is very crisp.

I have researched trying to determine age but only a few subtle changes. Has the Tender foot insignia & not the First Class. Insignia is in the middle, so I believe post 1927.

Height measured from bell end,
With silver mouthpiece 17"
Withstood mouthpiece 15"

Any information from others would be appreciated.

There's a wealth of information on the variants, changes to inscription, and dating in this pdf download:

Thanks Red-Coat, that's where I got my basic information from.

The former owner passed a couple of years ago & was 94, so put him in Scouts at, say 10, that would be about 1935ish.

Big question is, to clean or not to clean? NOT polish, just remove what I believe to be corrosion that will itself damage the bugle.

Nice find...I would not clean it. The reason is you can't go back once you go that route. You may be able to find some to straighten the bell and take out the dent....but make sure they don't clean or Polish it.
