Hit my favorite lunch spot today for maybe the 25th time for 45 min. First half of the hunt was typical clad and a couple wheats, then decided to hit a spot that I had been avoiding as it looked to have been a fill area for the nearby new highway. The high grass is down now as we had our first frost.

First signal was a penny / dime signal. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506967365.948701.jpg I had never held a half dime before, but knew what I had from the many tnet posts on them. Went in my special pouch made by my grade school daughter. Next target was a strong silver quarter signal, dug the plug. Still deeper, dug another 3 inches, still deeper. Swept the hole again and thought must be a deep beer can, but just pulled a half dime so 3" deeper in the hard packed dirt. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506967730.381916.jpg Saw the point on the back and thought, nice a large dandy button and put in my pocket. Had to run to the car as my lunch hour was up. When I pulled it out of my pocket I saw this. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506968188.842921.jpg OK, not a dandy button. This looks like some kind of military badge. Scraped the dirt mostly off with a toothbrush and toothpick. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506968357.796451.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506968379.867079.jpg Can anyone ID this?

Good luck out there!

Half dimes are awesome. Way to go! Some military member will jump on the US badge but I believe it is WW2. I am no expert, just what I am thinking from seeing families medals and metal from participation.

Congrats on the seated half dime. That's still on my "to do" list.

Thanks for the ID. I think you are correct. Did some googling for WW1 collar disc and it pops up. My first WWI military item!

Wow, nice save on that half dime. I bet that was a squeaky signal! How deep was it?

I can't make out the background pattern well enough, but that would determine wether WWI era, or between WWI and WWII. But it is pre WWII is for sure: Dating Metallic Insignia: Collar Disks
Definitely WW1 The 45 degree "chamfers" on the letters tell enough. Thanks for the link and the heads up! I learnt something today

Thx. The signal bounced a bit like a zincoln. Only about 2" down right in the middle of the dirt plug. One of those perfect moments when you wave over the plug and it has gone from bouncing to steady silver dime. Ground is finally very dry and hard after a wet summer.
