I found a 1938 buffalo nickel in my register one night a while back. It is in really great condition. What I would like to know is why there are two letter marks? on the buffalo side under FIVE CENTS there is a D, but under the 1938 there is an F???

did i miss something?

here is my awesome nickel, next to my not so awesome (actually pretty crappy) nickel
good one is on the bottom in both pics

anyone able to lighten those pics i added? anyone know if scanning them rather than photographing them will work better? how hard is it to tell if a coin has been chemically cleaned or altered to bring back the original luster?

Hi since the bottom coin looks to have a Full Horn it would grade out at Extra Fine then.
