Went to a yard sale, they had a bunch of jewelry, silver half dollars for $10, a bunch of watches, ton of other stuff. Picked up a watch, marked $50. It's gold filled~ and now it stopped working... The chain on it is nicer, seed pearls with a small ruby. Maybe better tomorrow ...

I have paid $40 for a similar watch in the past. If you can get it running, then $50 is not a terrible price. Who is the maker?

I found a nice collection of pocket watches, and the site I have below was very helpful in my research. Just type in the movement serial number, and it will date the movement and give specifics on jewels, size, etc. Sometimes the movements are valuable if you find the right one. And the gold filled case looks quite nice, so not a bad buy IMO. Elgin, Hamilton, Illinois, & Waltham Serial Number Lookup and Information | Pocket Watch Database

Thanks! That's sweet! I'll have to save that site for sure here is the info- 1873 http://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/elgin/280260
