button button, i found a button

now the trouble is, i dont know if it could be c/war or not.
it was found where there used to be a school, its been gone for lots of years.
was about 5 inches deep. the quarter is for size, it has 13 stars in a circle around the eagle, also in the claws an anchor, and looks like cannon balls under that, and i assume that its gold gilt,,,,,a little help would be appreciated, thanks

Very similar to the one I found, no back mark and same eagle..Seems as though most replies I received were anywhere from 1860-1910 era... Nice button....Congrats...jgas

i agree , most likely after the early 1900's

i found one of those last year. i believe its navy late 1800s early 1900s. cool thing to find. willy.

Typically, these types of iron back buttons are civilian buttons. Even mid 20th century military buttons have brass backs and shanks. Yours is very likely a contemporary men's blazer button.
