I detected this gilt button in a farm field in Western NY atvthe site of an 1850’s schoolhouse. It has a bird (Eagle?) and is stamped FINEGILT COLOUR. British made I assume. Has anyone ever seen this back stamp before?
Thanks

I found one similar a few years ago . I would guess it dates somewhere around 1820s-1830s. Not Military but still a good find.

Congrats on the nice old button. The spelling "colour" suggests British, but I thought the eagle indicates American. Hopefully someone with button expertise will weigh in.

I assume they manufactured them for US export. Early 1800s.
