Went out to a new spot a few people told me about in town. My first hit was a cool bale seal and then I found a 1890 Indian head penny. While griding the back hill I got a perfect Indian head hit about 4-5 inches down and to my surprise something tiny was in the side wall of the hole. I took it out and could see the back marks of a flat button. I put it in my pocket and kept digging and I soon found another bale seal and a wheat penny. My last two hits were a pewter button and another flat button with Extra Rich London as the back mark. The tiny button is what I could use some help with, the back mark reads "Fancy Orange Colour" and I did find some early flat buttons with this back mark but I can't find one with a ship on it. Any help would be great and thanks for looking.

I have no clue about that button but I love the ship on it! I'm certianly no expert but to me it looks like it's probably civilian. Even so, I'd take that over an IH any day! (Except for maybe a key date...)

That beats a plain button any day! Even if it turns out civilian, I still like the ship design and will display great!

Nice hunt Dan,,, because of the small size of the Ship button,,, I'm thinking Vest button??
Maybe I watched too many swash buckler Movies,, but I remember seeing some
British Naval Officers wearing vests as part of their uniforms??
Good luck with the I.D.
