First, welcome to the forums. There is a wealth of knowledge here, some even correct! A picture of the whole button with a size reference and a picture of the back would help get you a proper ID. That is a very interesting one.

I found this today and I think it's one of my best finds. I've sent the images to my man at the Bristol Museum for a translation:

This type of button with a drilled shank on the reverse are 17th C, some creep into the 18th.I found it in the UK and it's not a design I've seen before.
Can anyone tell me more about it?
