Two years after our 80-year-old neighbor passed away, his children have been spending time
remodeling the interior of the house. . . painting, new wooden floors, new fixtures, etc. before
they finally list the house with a local real estate broker.

After returning home from our local Memorial Day parade. . . (many Thanks to our Vets out there). . .
our neighbor's kids were there to dispose of one final item that was in the still in the basement
of the house. . . an old "up-right" piano that has seen better days. As an off-the cuff remark, I
suggested that before they get rid of it, they should check it for any hidden "treasures" that may
be inside. After a good laugh, we all went down to the basement and started dismantling the major
parts of the old piano. After removing the bottom panel by the foot-petals, we were ALL surprised to
see a metal box that was firmly bolted to the interior base of the piano. As our hearts raced, we
opened the box and revealed the hidden cache that was inside. . . :o

I think their father, who is now "up above", had the final laugh. . . to be sure.

Thanks for looking,

That's just weird. Why would someone hide that? Especially since you state it was bolted onto the piano. Bizarre! ???

Tag, you're it! ;D
My heart would have stopped when I saw that box bolted to the inside. Dog tags or not, that is still a super cool find. Could have been worse, could have been a dead mouse in there. :o
Great post,

That was a cool trick but one I would think took some effort and time to put together! That's a loot of dog tags! Was there father a "dog" catcher by any chance? :)

Today, I had a rather bizarre trick played on me. I was detecting at one of my favorite places and found a spot with an unusually loud signal. I suspected a can but knew from past experience there should be no can buried there! I began digging, recovering nothing but a hole full of pulltabs! There were at least 25! Why would someone do that? I couldn't help but laugh about it; leaving five in the hole! :)

Ever since I can remember, our neighbor has always had at least one dog.

By law, you're required to purchase a new license from
the village each year. . . He just kept saving all the tags that expired. :D

As far as the oldest tag goes, I think it was from the late 1980's.

Thanks for the replies!

just a guess but did he own a taco stand before he retired?? cant figure why he would hide tags unless he thought someone would find out while he was alive.
