Hey guys! Knocked the top right off my.wish list with this one. Previously I couldn't find an 1800's silver if my life depended on it, but man, did that change! So pumped lol. 1807 Spanish 8 Reale!!
I was out for a hunt in my go-to field where I have pulled some 1700's coppers. All the land along this road was once a meadow with a few loyalist home sites on it. I was going over a spot that I didn't do very thoroughly yet. Got a 12:46 "kerthunk" on the etrac. Number was consistent and so was the thunk. It was down about 7" and almost completely on edge. It pinpointed way off because of that, and unfortunately I hit it with my shovel! Grrrrrrr. Damage doesn't look that bad tho. I don't really care about value (thank God)...it's more about the display and story. Thanks guys!
After you catch your breath and stop wandering around the house holding it up to your eyes, please tell us what kind of terrain it was in, how deep and what else you dug in that area. As soon as I saw your reale, I had a visual image of one way to display it: buy or make a miniature wheelbarrow or mining cart, put that honker reale in it upended, with maybe a tiny shovel or pick in cart and a tiny donkey pulling it along! Could put a few small hunks of raw silver next to it too. (I didn't just fall off the donkey cart, just recalling silver & gold mining memorabilia I saw on a trip to Guanajuato, Mexico a few years ago, a center of gold & silver extraction during early days of old Spain domination of that area. Have fun! Andi
just so everybody knows how big this coin is, can you take another pic with a nickel or dime next to it.
Not everyone has seen one of these.
Iv'e handled them but never dug one.
Definitely at the top of my wishlist.
Thanks
