I've been up and down Highway 1 several times, but, not recently. Never had much luck in the section you mention. Had better luck a bit south of Jenner around Bodega Bay area. None of those areas compared with SoCal however. There just isn't enough people going to those beaches to account for many good finds.

A bit more north than you're going..my son lives in Arcata and has taken me to some pretty popular beaches north of there. Nothing like So Cal but I had fun and got some silver rings and a cute silver seal charm. You may do better in some of the gravel parking spots. Good Luck (go in summer!).

I walked into a breakfast spot in Fort Bragg and 3 guys were talking detecting - but they target logging camps, inland.
