The story from my Gram was that my grandfather found this rock near a meteorite when he was stationed abroad during the Korean War. I have had it in my possession for 30years. Could it be true moissanite? If so, is it with anything?
Thanks for the help!
It's industrially grown Silicon Carbide. Moissanite is naturally occuring SiC, but it's extremely rare and that crystal form you have is characteristic of the acheson process which heats sand and carbon with an electric arc. It was produced in large quantities starting in 1896 at Niagara Falls using cheap electric power from the hydroelectric plant.
