can tab aluminum

i was told by a family member that the aluminum tabs on the cans was made from a higher quality of aluminum and was worth more money if you took them off and saved them in a bucket. does anyone know if that is true or is it the same as the rest of the can?

I've heard the same thing. One time I removed the tabs from the cans and sold them separately and was payed less for the tabs then the cans. I noticed they had a fifty gal. drum full of tabs.?
That was years ago and I did not ask any questions.

That's one of those urban myths that has been around at least as long as the internet. A guy I worked with swore it was true, and saved buckets of tabs. All he had to do is call the scrap yard first, and it would have saved him a lot of extra work for no gain.
