So let me make sense of this. Are you buying just bulk coins ranging from those dates or are you buying a set from 1922-1976 excluding the rare one(s), which is actually 1925 (also 1926 far 6 variety but lets forget about varieties). So the seller is offering these for $100? The Tombac nickels (88% copper 12% zinc) were issued in 1942 and 1943, in 1944 and 1945 they were changed to a chrome plated steel composition. So anyway let me know more detail such as how many coins, are you buying a set or bulk and what is his asking price.

It really depends on quantity and condition. Good to Mint state is a pretty broad description. You may get only one MS-60 and all others G-VG and F, which is not good. Do you mean 1 coin per date, from 1922 to 1976?
So whether it is a good deal or not, it is all up to you. From my experience, you can visit Canada and after going through 5 boxes of nickels you will be able to make a good set of 1960-2012 nickels. The pre 1963 are uncommon, so 1 per box, but no more.

BTW, I would pick them up for 2.75$ ;D

sorry should have been clearer.
it is a red case set from 1922-1976 about 66 coins total some had double dates and the coin showing the front of the coin with the king/ queen. One he said was rare he had it filled in with the correct date but not the correct mintage all the others were there. ill post a pick on friday. most are in very good condition about 6 are in mint state.

'Shortcuts' as I like to call them are always the most expensive way to collect. Buying whole collections is the expressway to collecting the types of coins you want if you lack the patience to build coin-by-coin. While the final decision is up to you, I will say that JUST TODAY via the magnet of the local Penny Arcade counting machine, I received a 1922 VF, 1932 Ex Fine and a 1935 AU for free (which usually works :headbang:). But the older Canadian Nickels are absolutely beautiful but with a little patience and luck...you might be able to bang out a very nice set w/o spending $100.00.
