'Cannibal sandwiches' sicken Wisconsin residents

MILWAUKEE (AP) — "Cannibal sandwiches," an appetizer featuring raw, lean ground beef served on cocktail bread, may be a Wisconsin tradition, but they are not safe, health officials said, noting that more than a dozen people became ill after consuming them last holiday season.
Health officials confirmed four cases tied to E. coli bacteria and 13 likely cases in people who ate the sandwiches at several gatherings late last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a report issued this week. The meat came from a Watertown market that later recalled more than 2,500 pounds of meat.

well first off it was probably not ground round that they used,
& it was probably the raw egg , or other additive
that made people sick.

if your gonna eat raw hamburg, use fresh ground Round, & don't add all that
dangerous crap like raw egg

I had a friend that use to eat raw hamburger,, gave me the queezies!

I wouldn't touch it unless I ground it myself,, after I butchered it myself lol. (raw fat.....uuhHHUHUHHH I'm getttin green)

I work a Union shop in a frozen food factory and seen all sorts of things made. The dairy (cheese room) shut the place down twince in 6 months due to 3 different kinds of stuff that grows, even at 40' degrees. You would not eat processed food nor allow open food in your fridge if you knew how it grows.

yes fatty Hamburg is extremely Gross, I've nearly threw up a few times
grabbing a Chunk and popping it in my mouth. It never made it down my throat.

But "Fresh" Ground Round is delicious Raw & "Fresh" Ground Sirloin even More so.
I was watching a friend mix ground Deer & Ground Pork once
to make sausage. She grabbed some out of the bowl & ate it...
No idea how that tasted, I didn't have the words to ask ,
It just Grossed & Shocked me out of words :tongue3:
She's still alive and Healthy though :icon_thumright:

I believe some of it is how you were brought up.
If you were coddled from birth, your system
needs to be coddled forever.

It's the main reason I'm against Health Nazis.
eventually half the things we eat, breathe & do will be illegal,
And all of a sudden one will be re-introduced & wipe us all out

I agree completely.

when sausage making time comes me and the kids are liable to eat two or three pounds of raw deer sausage before we get the mixture just right.

if God wanted us to eat stuff raw, He wouldn't have invented fire and grills

You guys are hilarious:notworthy:
Donner Party deli, fire and grills, a week on da throne, just too funny.

Aunt Donna was a waitress at a greasy spoon. Those raw sammiches were really popular back when w/the truckers.

I think "cannibal sandwiches" are in very poor taste.

Yea I don't know any self respecting cannibal who would eat beef,
But I think he'd be happy we be Fattening our selves up with it. Raw or Not.
