Cool find.

Now they have to seal off the area and conduct archeological research to see if they are on a historical site.

All constructions efforts must stop immediately until a proper evaluation of this potential historic site can be determined.

Years ago I was installing composting toilets out on the Boston Harbor Islands with my backhoe. we would dig a few inches then the archeologist had to jump in the hole and check out the soil, then dig another few inches so on and so on. never found anything. Good thing I was paid by the hour

Looking at the location and its condition, I would guess the cannon has been re-used as a mooring post or bollard. Nice story!
